HEDGEAR is quite possibly Brazil 's most under rated and misunderstood rock n' roll band.
That's because it's not easy singing in English and playing retro style rock in the land of Bossa Nova and Samba. HEDGEAR is essentially an eclectic guitar band with tunes that range from mellow acoustic to heavy and edgy. They've been described as “Retro / Classic / Sophisticated / Intellectual” by the press. You'll find lots of guitar riffs, licks and solos in the tunes.
Fronted by elusive guitarist-singer-songwriter-producer Ussher, HEDGEAR got kick started back in 2001. It was the begining of the century and after years of playing in cover bands and working in the shadows producing other bands Ussher felt it was time to go out and do something new.
When asked about the band Ussher is quick to say, “It's always been a classic case of Band On The Run – one day we're running after cash to hire out studio time, another after inspiration, another after other musicians to help fill in the gaps, and so on and so forth.”
Joined by Diniz on drums, Carmine on lead guitars and an array of several “guns for hire” the band has issued two albums on the indie circuit – 2002's Nu Musical Chord Junction and the 2005 follow-up Sagittarius In The Air .
The band has been known to lose their shame on occasions and hire out alternate takes and mixes that venture into disco and trance.
In summary, HEDGEAR is “Retro” and “Retro” is timeless.
